Travel has always been a significant part of my life, both personally and professionally. From late-night arrivals in unfamiliar cities to perfect lunches in tiny towns that don’t show up on tourist maps, I’ve collected a lifetime of experiences. Last year, I officially retired from my role in medical media after our company was acquired. Around that same time, we were hit hard by Hurricane Helene—left without water, electricity, or internet for weeks. That unexpected pause gave me the chance to rethink how I want to spend my time.
